Economou Alexander, age 81. Born Sept. 8, 1929. Passed away in peace May 25, 2011. Alex was a loving brother to Bob and George, a loving sister, Marina, who passed away in infancy. A very intelligent man who was always searching for new worlds to explore. He graduated from Withrow High School in 1948. Joined the Army. He graduated from the Army Medical Corps School at the top of his class. He served in the Korean War from its beginning, seeing all of its brutality. Upon discharge, he studied photography in Chicago. Upon graduation, he then went to Xavier University and received his Bachelor's Degree in history. Alex then worked at the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center, where he worked with delinquent boys. He enjoyed the experience and felt that he made a difference in their lives. When the Vietnam War erupted, Alex answered the call and went back into the Army, again into the Medical Corps. He stayed longer than the usual term of service. He became disabled and was medically discharged. While in retirement, he received nine medals in a beautiful ceremony from Congressman Steve Chabot. Alex made a difference in this life. He will be missed by his nieces, Melissa Muennich, Jennifer Ernest, Julia Economou, including his nephews and one great-nephew, Michael Zepf. All of his cousins were in his heart. Alex was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He truly loved this country. He was our Alexander The Great. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Holy Trinity-Greek Orthodox Church from 9:30 AM until time of service at 11 AM. Memorials may be made to the American Canscer Society or the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Church.
