Alfred Sheard, Jr. passed away suddenly March 16, 2016 at the age of 68. Al was the loving husband of Louise (Trocchio) Sheard, having recently celebrated 40 years of marriage; devoted father of Allison (Aaron) VanderLaan, Ashley Sheard, Elizabeth Fanger, and cherished PaPa of Aidan Sheard VanderLaan. Preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Doris Sheard and son Michael. Al was raised in Cranberry Lake, New York, and was a graduate of Kent State University. Al began pursuing his life-long passion of law enforcement with the Kent State Police Department in 1970, followed by 7 years with the City of Kent before beginning his federal law enforcement career in 1978 by becoming a federal agent with the U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas and then later in Miami, Florida as their Intelligence Agent. Al and family moved to Cincinnati in 1985 where he continued to work for the U.S. Immigration Service and retired in 2003 from the U.S. Customs Service. In recent years, Al traveled the world teaching law enforcement practices to foreign officials for the U.S. Department of State and for the private sector. He also ran his own private investigation firm. He especially enjoyed family dinners and gatherings, and attending Reds and Bengals games with his grandson. There will be no calling hours, however, a celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in his name may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, P.O.
