It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Gilday, a cherished member of the Cincinnati Riverside community. Daniel, born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 17, 1945, passed away on August 11, 2024 leaving behind a legacy that will live forever.
Daniel's life journey was one of dedication and hard work. He began his career as a dishwasher and caterer at the Trolley Tavern, a local restaurant in his teenage years. His commitment to excellence led him to a remarkable 37-year tenure at CG&E/Duke Energy, where he started in the mail room and ascended to the position of Director of all Power Operation Stores before retiring in 2000.
A man of great intellect and ambition, Daniel was a graduate of Elder High School, Class of 1963. He further pursued his education and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy from Thomas More College in 1973. His academic achievements reflected his steadfast determination and thirst for knowledge.
In commemorating Daniel's life, visitation services will be held on August 16, 2024, at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home Delhi in Cincinnati, Ohio. A Mass in celebration of his life will take place on August 17, 2024, at St. Vincent de Paul, followed by a Graveside Service at St. Joseph New Cemetery. These services offer an opportunity for family and friends to gather, reminisce, and pay their respects to a man who touched so many lives.
Daniel J. Gilday was the beloved husband of Janet Gilday (nee Chouteau) for 58 years. He was the loving father of Kim (Ed) Gilday-Weber, Dan (Tracy) Gilday Jr., Tony (Denise) Gilday, and Jill (Joe) Shoemaker. Daniel's presence will be deeply missed by his dear grandchildren: Brandi (Ryan), Ashley, Brittany (Michael), Jacob, Kyle, Jordyn, Joey, and Caitlyn; and great-grandchildren: Ethan, Caleb, Chase, Rilley, Skylar, and Noah. He was the son of the late Richard and Lucille Gilday.
Throughout his life, Daniel wore many hats. He was the President of the Riverside Civic and Welfare Club, dedicated his time to the St. Vincent de Paul finance committee, served on the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, and contributed immensely to various civic organizations. His proudest accomplishments included being honored as one of the 200 Greater Cincinnatians, receiving the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, and having a recreation complex in the Riverside Community named in his honor. December 20, 2005 was declared "Dan Gilday Day" in Cincinnati, and he was presented with a key to the City for his many years of service.
His selfless dedication to serving others and his unwavering commitment to making a difference will forever be remembered and cherished.
