Donald Woodbury McClanahan

December 31, 1931 — March 16, 2025

Donald Woodbury McClanahan, born on December 31, 1931, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Don will be remembered for his remarkable spirit and unwavering dedication to his loved ones.

For 68 wonderful years, he shared his life with his beloved wife, Katherine "Kaki" McClanahan. Together, they cultivated a warm and loving home. A proud father, Don is survived by his sons, Donald (Darlene) McClanahan and Mark McClanahan. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Andrew (Abbie) McClanahan, Mary Katherine (Blake) Fertitta, William (Casey) McClanahan, Patrick (Jess) McClanahan, and Kevin McClanahan. As a great-grandfather, he cherished his time with Odin, Parker, Rarick, Charlotte, Rowan, and Riley.

Don’s commitment to service extended beyond his family. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, exemplifying his sense of duty and patriotism. Academically, he was an alumnus of the University of Kentucky, where he laid the foundation for a successful career. Don was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He proudly held the position of President of IREM for two years, where he made significant contributions to the field.

Don was known for his wonderful sense of humor, bringing laughter and joy to all who knew him. He was always a great host, embracing his friends and family with warmth and enthusiasm. He delighted in spending time at the lake house on Lake Waynoka, enjoying leisurely days filled with golf, both on the course and while watching on television, as well as engaging in the serene hobby of working on jigsaw puzzles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Amrah McClanahan, and his sister, Mary Ann Moorman. Don leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, love, and laughter that will continue to inspire and comfort those who had the privilege to know him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends as they carry forward the values of love, dedication, and joy that he personified throughout his life. 

Memorial service will be Saturday, April 12th, 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church,100 Miami Ave. Terrace Park, OH 45174.
