Eleanor Strong Lortz

January 29, 1911 — April 14, 2012

Eleanor Everett Strong Born in Syracuse, New York, daughter of Elmer and Mabel Spencer Strong. Her sister, Martha Payne, and brother, James Strong, predeceased her. She was married to Daniel V. Jones, M.D., Gilbert Lortz and devoted companion to Robert Knies. During WWII she spent two years in California with her sons and husband, Daniel Jones, LCdr, MC, USNR. After Dr. Jones was deployed to the South Pacific she returned to Cincinnati. In 1950 the family moved to Wyoming, OH. Eleanor is survived by her two sons, Daniel S. Jones (Susan) of Naples, FL and Gwilym S. Jones (Diana) of Framingham, MA, six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was stepmother to Julie Lortz Cryder and the late Dennis Lortz. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alumna of West High School, Rochester, NY and University of Rochester Eastman School of Music.

Member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Volunteered as a Red Cross Lady Music and playing the piano were Eleanor's lifelong loves. She accompanied Wyoming High School choral groups, University of Cincinnati Women's Glee Club and Medical Auxiliary Choral Group and at St. David's Day programs. She served on the boards of The Cincinnati Women's Club and Wyoming Civic Center. She was a member of the DAR, Women's Committee for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Music Lovers Club. She was advisor to the University of Cincinnati Medical Students' Wives Auxiliary. She was a member of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church were she served as a Deacon and later joined Northminster Presbyterian Church, Finneytown.
