Elizabeth "Betty" Rose Rauen

March 18, 1928 — January 13, 2024

Elizabeth ( Betty Rose) Rauen (nee Holtman), age 95, 1928 - 2024, passed away  peacefully on January 13, 2024. She was the beloved wife of  Robert (Bob) E. Rauen, who preceded her in death in 2014 after 65 years of marriage. She was a devoted mother of 6 children. Her only son Joseph H. Rauen preceded her in death in 2020. Betty is survived by her loving daughters and family members Laurie (nee Scheper) Rauen (wife of son Joe), Martha (Tom) Hardin, Emily (Jeff) Tout, Peggy (Mark) Sucher, Connie (Bill) Turpin and Kathy Koch. She is also a proud grandma of 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Betty Rose was born in Covington, KY on March 18, 1928, and was preceded in death by her parents John and Catherine (nee Johanneman) Holtman, and her brother Howard Holtman. As a young girl during the great depression and the end of WWII, she understood the phase, " Waste not, Want not". Her mother taught her many life lessons and the importance of family.  Betty was active in St. Augustine Church's young ladies sodality which published school and church bulletins and news letters. There she made friendships that lasted her life time. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1945. She went on to be a clerical secretary in the claims department of a Cincinnati insurance firm. She married her childhood sweetheart Bob, on November 27, 1948. As their family grew they moved from Covington to Cincinnati (Western Hills) in 1959, and opened a meat market that grew to the establishment of two IGA Foodliners (Delhi / Price Hill). In Cincinnati, Betty once again became involved with Our Lady of Lourdes' lady sodality group which sponsored many fund raisers to support the school. Being a homemaker, Betty was a seamstress, family chef, managed the family budget, disciplinarian, and the best of all, our mom. With a family of six children, family camping was a big part of life’s leisure time. Their established business afforded Betty and Bob the ability for traveling seeing 6 of the 7 natural wonders of the world and more. Later in retirement they became Ft. Myers, Florida snow birds. As part of the “Greatest Generation”, Betty and Bob lived life to the fullest. In later years, Betty developed progressive vascular dementia and with the support of family, friends and the teams at Artis Senior Living of Bridgetown and Mason, she once again lived the fullest life.
