Gaetano (Tony) , 93, beloved husband of Francesca (Messina) Taravella for 66 years. Devoted father of Mario, Paul (Karen), Teresa, John and Tony (Rhonda) Taravella. Cherished grandfather of six and great grandfather of four. Also survived by his sister, Maria Woosley.
He died peacefully at home October 5 surrounded by family. Preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Tony was born and raised in Enna, Sicily, and immigrated to America in 1939. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army's baking company during and after WW II and, as a civilian, continued his talent as pastry chef with the Netherland Hilton and Westin Hotels, and Cincinnati and Queen City Clubs. Tony will be remembered for his fresh baked bread, pies and biscottis, and for his enduring love of family and friends. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, and listening to opera and Italian music. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thur., Oct. 9 from 5-8 p.m. at the Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home, 4619 Delhi Rd. Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Fri., Oct. 10 at St. William Church. Internment St. Joseph (new) Cemetery.
