Gail Loos

September 29, 1938 — July 11, 2024

Mary Gail (Kenny) Loos passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 85 on July 11, 2024, after a long illness. Gail was the cherished wife of Don Loos and beloved mother of Laura, Matt and Kathleen.

Gail was born on September 29, 1938 in Cincinnati, the only daughter and eldest of four to Edward and Thelma (Kavanaugh) Kenny. She attended schools in Greenhills and Deer Park, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1956. Called to a religious vocation, Gail entered the Sisters of Charity and studied at the College of Mount St. Joseph. During her vocation she taught first grade at St. William School in Price Hill. Desiring a family and after a period of reflection and prayer, Gail made the decision to leave the order. She met Don at a gathering of former Catholic brothers and sisters. They were married on November 30, 1968.

Gail and Don raised their children in Price Hill and Delhi Township, where they were active in the St. Dominic parish. Gail was a full-time homemaker and mother. She was creative in making ends meet, as her children would say, "on a guidance counselor's salary." One example of her generous spirit: for several years, Gail and Don fostered infants awaiting adoption for Catholic Charities. When her children were older, Gail returned in service to the Sisters of Charity, volunteering as a secretary at the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse.

She kept a gracious home and enjoyed cooking, sewing, photography, reading, card games and hosting family gatherings. Gail was close with her brothers, and their families regularly gathered for holidays, weekends and vacations. In their later years, Gail and Don owned a vacation home on Lake Elmer Davis. When not hosting friends and family, Gail appreciated the lake house as a quiet respite from her busy life. For the past fifteen years, Gail and Don resided in Anderson Township, to be closer to Laura and their grandchildren.

Gail is survived by her husband Donald Cyril Loos; her children, Laura Ann Sharp, Matthew Donald Loos (Chris Anderson), both of Cincinnati, and Kathleen Marie (Nicholas) DiNicola of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren Colin DiNicola and Andrew, Alaina, Evan and Patrick Sharp; her brother Michael (Ellie) Kenny and sister-in-law Carol Kahut; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Edward (Barbara) Kenny and Thomas Kenny; brother-in-law Peter Kahut, nephew Stephen Kahut and niece Lynn Foster.

Gail will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her curiosity, sense of humor and beautiful smile that reflected her beautiful soul. According to her wishes, her remains will undergo a green burial, with a private graveside service.

Friends who wish may contribute in Gail's memory to the Library Foundation of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.
