"Gus" beloved husband of the late Alice Gurska (nee Hirsch). Loving father of Nancy Gurska, Phyllis (Michael) Volan, Barbara (Gary) Williams and Amy (David) West, dear grandfather of Robert, Kathleen (Dustin), Renee, Charles, Gustav, Olivia, Madeline and Peter. Brother of Richard and the late Harriet Gurska.
Gus was a World War II veteran, having served in the European theater as a machine gunner in the "Timberwolves" of the U.S. Army's 104th Infantry Division. His unit landed at Normandy 99 days after D-Day. Just before the Battle of the Bulge, he suffered a shrapnel wound, for which he was later awarded the Purple Heart. After recovering in a London hospital, he rejoined his unit near the end of the Battle of the Bulge. Among other accomplishments, his unit assisted in the liberation of the Nordhausen Concentration Camp in Aachen Germany.
A career employee of Hilton Davis Chemical Company, Gus retired in 1995.
