Irini Stella Kyrios (nee Bournakis), born 9/6/1938 from the Peloponnese village of Leonidio, Greece, transitioned to her heavenly home on 9/9/2024 at the age 86. She was the eldest daughter of Anegeliki and Demetrios Bournakis of Leonidio, Greece. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Nickalaos Giorgos Kyrios, five brothers, and her son-in-law William Freeman.
She is survived by her three daughters, Matina (Michael) Trivett, Angie Kyrios, and Maria Freeman, loving Yiayia to her four grandchildren; Nicholas (Sarah) Trivett, Gabriella (Christopher) Fletcher, Alex Freeman, and Sophia Freeman, adoring Yiayouli to her six great-grandchildren; Grace Trivett, Amauri, Rhaya, Kingsley, and Hayleigh Fletcher and Sloane Burke. She is also survived by her youngest sister Varvara Samartzi of Leonidio, Greece, many nieces and nephews throughout America, Canada, and Greece, and her treasured fur babies.
She and her family immigrated to America in Jan 1969 for a better life. While she missed her family in Greece dearly, she loved living in America, and proudly became an American citizen in 2000.
Known as Yiayia to both family and friends, she loved God, her church, her family, and always had hope for a better future. She was a simple, generous woman, who many would describe as selfless. Throughout, all of her trials and tribulations, her faith never wavered. She was loved, and cherished and will be missed by all who knew her.
