Jeffrey (Jeff) P. Vollmer
Jeffrey (Jeff) Vollmer, 69, passed away somewhat unexpectedly on March 2nd, 2025.
Jeff was born in Cincinnati on September 4, 1955 to Trudy and Carl Vollmer. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lynn Vollmer (nee Smith), daughters Alexandra (Jon) Vollmer, and Sydney (Kory) Smith, and his most cherished grandchildren Isaac Johnson and Ariadne Vollmer, as well as brother Greg (Barb) Vollmer, sister Lisa Vollmer, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear in-laws. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother Mark (Terri) Vollmer.
At the time of his birth, Jeff was not expected to survive past the age of 2, as he was born with an open abdomen and no bladder. Through the excellent care and love of his mother, Jeff not only survived but thrived in life. He was the first person in America to receive the life-saving ileal-conduit surgery and was classified as having a disability, but he never lived his life as such.
Jeff went to Western Hills High School and worked at Swallen’s, a place he loved. He began there as a salesperson in the Patio/Toy/Lawn and Garden departments. He moved up to manager and eventually Merchandise Buyer at the Redbank corporate office. Swallen’s was where he met the love of his life, Lynn, who worked there as well. The two of them found a second family within the store, hosting parties and creating a sense of community.
When Swallen’s unfortunately went out of business, Jeff did not want to pursue similar jobs outside of Cincinnati. He and Lynn decided to make a business of his hobby, woodworking. He first sold his wares at the Ohio RenFest and then at art shows, stores, and galleries across the country, winning many awards. Later in his career, he began teaching others his craft, both at his own studio and the Marc Adams School of Woodworking. He also wrote the book on making puzzle boxes, a family effort with his wife and daughters. He took immense pride in his work, and kept making boxes until the very end. One of his greatest joys was meeting folks at art shows and wowing them with his wares.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11th at the Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home 4619 Delhi Rd. from 5-8 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 12th at 10:30 a.m. at St. William Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph New Cemetery.
Jeff always wanted to share his joy with others. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Summerfair Cincinnati. https://summerfair-cincinnati.square.site/memorials. A celebration of his life will be held following the ceremony at the Boudinot LaRosa's.
