John Pohlkamp

John (Jack) Pohlkamp passed away January 19, 2024 at the age of 86.
Jack was born February 8, 1937 to Joseph and Bernadine Pohlkamp. He is preceded in death by his son, Michael, sisters Lorraine (Charley) Wolf, and Mary Eleanor and Brothers, Joe Pohlkamp and Dick (Sue) Pohlkamp.

He was a loving husband to his wife, JoAnn (Weitz) Pohlkamp, of 61 years whom he affectionately called his “Schnook”.  Together, they raised five children: Michael, preceded in death, Mark (Kelly) Pohlkamp, Sheila (Jim) Master, Shauna (Tim) Goldrainer, and Matt Pohlkamp.

Adored by his grandchildren, Jacque (Cameron) Knowles, Quincy, Kendall, Leo, and Joleen and great grandchildren, Sophie, Ella and Maeve.

Jack graduated Saint Clements grade school in Saint Bernard and Roger Bacon high school. Regular attendance at Roger Bacon’s First Fridays were important to him as he held a strong Catholic faith.

He received his BA from Xavier University and then served in the US Army achieving the rank of captain. When he and JoAnn started their family, they were stationed in Texas, Louisiana, Kansas and even Germany for 3 years. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran receiving a bronze star. After serving in Vietnam, he retired from the Army and made their permanent residence in Cincinnati.

Jack was a Certified Fraud Examiner. He enjoyed working in his workshop building and fixing just about anything. He spent many hours as a spectator, following his children and grandchildren in sports and activities. He was a master on the grill for Sunday dinners.

His smiles, hugs and witty personality will be missed.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 7th at the Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home 4619 Delhi Road from 10:30AM-12:30PM. Memorial mass will follow at 1PM at St. Dominic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Pohlkamp Scholarship Fund at St. Dominic Church.
