Michael D. "Mikey" Durkin, a cherished member of the Cincinnati community, passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on August 23, 1946, Mikey lived a life filled with passion, camaraderie, and dedication, particularly reflected in his work and interests.
Mikey had a long career in shipping for Parkway Products, where he committed himself to his profession with steadfast diligence. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he became known for his spirited personality as an avid Cincinnati Bengal fan. He found joy in the simpler pleasures of life, notably as a frequent visitor to Price Hill Chili, Graeter's, and the Werkhaus, places that echoed with laughter and shared moments among friends. Christmas was Mikey's favorite time of the year. He played Santa Claus for many decades bringing that magical spirit of the season to so many children.
In addition to his professional and personal pursuits, Mikey honorably served in the Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country, which added another layer of respect to his character.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Langer (Mark). He is also survived by his nephew, Robert Cullen (Janie), and nieces Christina (Langer) Bogdan, Kathleen Kleemeyer (Joshua), and Erin Durkin. Michael took pride in being a great uncle to Grant, Grace, Leanne, and Ashley, as well as a great-great uncle to Ford and Charlee.
Mikey was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Cindy Durkin, his mother, Gladys (Holzapfel), and his father, Patrick Durkin. He is also mourned by his late siblings, Elaine Cullen (Richard) and Thomas Durkin.
He was dearly loved by his faithful friend Jan Burns and a host of friends throughout the Westside community. Mikey's memory will undoubtedly linger in the hearts of those who knew him, celebrated for his warm spirit and the connections he fostered throughout his life.
Visitation will be held on September 13, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home 4619 Delhi Rd. A Mass will follow at St. Lawrence Church at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be made in his name to the Delhi/Riverview Kiwanis Club or a charity of your choice.
