Nettie E Remke

November 12, 1932 — March 23, 2016

Remke, Nettie Elizabeth (Chris) (nee Adams) died peacefully on March 23, 2016. Born on November 12, 1932 in Letcher County, Kentucky, to Martha Adams (Sexton) and Andrew James Adams. She was the only sister in the household and adopted the nickname "Sissy", but was also known as "Christine" to many. As a teenager, her family moved to Cincinnati, but she loved her childhood home of southeastern Kentucky and always took pride in being a coal miner's daughter. She worked a number of jobs as a young lady, but settled in as a real estate salesperson from the 1960's until the 1990's. She had many repeat clients that became longtime friends. After the love of her life passed away in 1985, she also began caring for others by providing home health care for the elderly. In a 2014 interview for the Oak Hills Nursing Home newsletter, she was asked why she liked selling real estate. Her response was "I enjoyed it because I made people happy." That simple statement sums it up. Even after her vision and memory failed, she loved to tell people how beautiful or handsome they were; still trying to brighten someone's day. She was an obvious favorite of her wonderful caregivers. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Remke (Jack), and brothers, James Adams and Paul Adams. She is survived by her sons John and wife Stacy (Turner) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Steve and wife Brenda (Layton) of St. Marks, Florida, grandsons Benjamin and Thomas Remke, brothers Eugene and wife Mae and Charles Adams and wife Cathy, sister-in-law Margie Adams and many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Queen City Hospice, The Cincinnati Association for the Blind, the American Diabetes Association, or any charity of your choice. Visitation and a brief memorial service will be held on Friday, April 1, from 5 to 7 pm, at Vitt, Stermer and Anderson Funeral Home, 4619 Delhi Ave. in Cincinnati. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. www.vittstermeranderson.com .
