Rev. Philip R. Yeary, a beloved pastor, devoted family man of God, and cherished community member, passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on May 22, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Philip's life was marked by his unwavering faith his deep love for his family, his commitment to serving others. For over 56 years, Rev. Yeary served as the Pastor of State Avenue Church of God, where he was a guiding light to countless congregation members. His warm and welcoming personality endeared him to everyone he met. Known for his forgiving nature and genuine care for others, Philip made an indelible impact on those in his community. His passion for service extended beyond the church walls, as he also proudly held the role of Greater Cincinnati Police & Fire Chaplain, offering spiritual guidance and support to first responders.
Philip's family was at the center of his world. He was a devoted husband to Peggy Yeary (nee Cole), with whom he shared 61 years of loving marriage. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and love. As a father, he raised two wonderful sons, Gregg Yeary and Patrick Yeary, who carried forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. Philip took immense joy in being a grandfather to his three grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler, and Kaitlyn, often expressing how proud he was of their accomplishments and growth.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Philip had a deep connection to his community through various activities, including serving as the treasurer of the Oak Hills Band Association. His passion for nurturing the next generation showed through his dedication as a Knothole Baseball manager for over a decade, where he guided both of his sons, instilling in them the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Philip was also a cherished brother, leaving behind sisters Norma Jean (the late Earl) Angel, Beulah Wegman, and Richard Yeary, along with many nieces and nephews who remember him with great fondness. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rev. Willis and Fannie Yeary, and his siblings Dolores Hash and Nancy (Ronnie) Valvano, as well as Earnie (Jewel-still living) Yeary and Patricia (Frank Boggio, Dave Coyne).
As family and friends gather to celebrate his remarkable life, we remember Rev. Philip R. Yeary not only as a dedicated pastor and loving family member but as a beacon of hope and compassion in our lives. He will be missed deeply, but he leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home Delhi from 11:00 AM until time of funeral service at 12:30 PM. A graveside service will follow continuing to honor a life truly dedicated to service and love.
