Robert Vincent Boertlein, passed away January 31, 2024, in his 93rd year. Robert was born in Peru, Indiana, on September 8, 1930 and graduated from Western Hills High School (Class of ’49). He was the son of the late Balzer J. Boertlein and Isabella C. Boertlein (née Hennard) and their last living child. Robert’s siblings included his three brothers, the late Earl, Paul, and George Boertlein, and three sisters, the late Betty Jean Mefford, Helen Kirn, and Mary Reidel. Robert was a Korean War veteran and served aboard the USS John A. Bole (DD-755). For many years, he worked as an electrician for the American Laundry Machine Company but spent most of his life caring for his parents. He also preserved much family history, which he turned over to his nephew and caregiver, James Reidel. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who simply knew him as “Uncle Bob.” His infectious laughter will be much missed, for it helped him through the absurdities of his long life. What his high school yearbook said of him was true, “Dark, sparkling eyes, a hurried manner, meaningless tit-tats.” Funeral services will be private.
