Thomas “Tom” William Gougeon, passed away on May 4, 2024, in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 88. He was born on July 16, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan to John Milton and Dorothy Meyer Gougeon.
Tom is survived by his daughters Julia Gougeon Bell (George) and Nancy Gougeon Knapp (Greg), six grandchildren, Jonathan Bell (Emily), Christopher Bell (Madison), Griffin Knapp, Chloe Knapp, Sarah Knapp, and William Knapp and one great-grandson, George Bell, and twins (Bell) on the way. He is also survived by his loving companion of 9 years, Louise Knauft Allen. In addition, he is survived by his stepdaughters Tracy Berry (Chris) and Julie Spomer. Step grandchildren Emma Schoch (Matt), Elyssa Belcher (Jacob) and Elayna Franklin (Preston) and step great grandchildren Henry and Sophie Schoch and one on the way (Belcher).
Tom was preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years, Sarah McClure Gougeon, and his second wife of 22 years, Carolyn Tracy Gougeon.
Tom was a graduate of the Class of 1959 from the University of Michigan with degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. He dedicated 34 years of his life to a successful career at Procter & Gamble in Research and Development. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Michigan College of Engineering.
Apart from his professional life, Tom was an avid sailor and served as commodore of both Hueston Woods and Cowan Lake Sailing Associations. He also enjoyed traveling around the world, especially France, and had a lifelong passion for trains. All of these things he shared with his family and others. He also served as an Elder and Clerk of Session at Northminster Presbyterian Church for many years and served on the Board for the Adolescent Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
A special word of gratitude to Theresa and Garry Newton for their faithful, loving support for over 42 years. The family also would like to thank the compassionate caregivers from Mel’s Caring Companions notably Chelsea, Cherita and Patricia and Hospice of Cincinnati for keeping Tom comfortable and cared for to the end.
A Celebration of Life service in memory of Thomas William Gougeon will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 703 Compton Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45231 on June 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM with reception to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Cincinnati or Northminster Presbyterian Church in his memory.
