Carp
Hanna (née Schipper), on March 27. Preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John Henry Carp, and by a son, John Stephanius, "Stephen". Died at Hyde Park Care Center, recently a resident of Evergreen Retirement Center in Hartwell, and a past resident of Forest Park. Born on September 20, 1930 at The Hague, Netherlands, she was the only child of Nicolaas Schipper and Jikke Hartog.
After graduation from the science department in high school, Hanna graduated from a career college where she pursued the basic curriculum for chemical analyst. She worked for the Applied Science Research Organization and Analytical Institute in Rijswijk, where she did chemical research, and analyses of dry pigments, electrolytical copper, and various metals and alloys. She also met her future husband there. They studied together for their diplomas of chemical analyst.
They married in 1955 and emigrated to the US in 1957, and became citizens in 1962. After her husband acquired a position at Procter and Gamble's Miami Valley laboratories, Hanna pursued informal studies of the American government system and became a member of the League of Women Voters. They became members of Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church, where she was president of the Women's Association in 1965, and twice chaired a church circle. Their son, Stephen, offered new challenges, and both Hanna and John became active members of the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities. Hanna concentrated on the subject of nutrition and was able to guide parents of hyperactive youngsters on a diet that offered a calming effect. After her husband's retirement in 1985, they made several trips to the Netherlands. Both John and Hanna enjoyed the history and art of their native country. Hanna enjoyed music, reading and embroidery, and was interested in economy and religious history. She was a member of the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Cincinnati Preservation Association. A private interment has been held at the Garden Mausoleum at Spring Grove Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Mt Auburn Presbyterian Church, 103 Wm Howard Taft Rd, on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, she requested that memorial contributions be made to the Mt Auburn Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 103 Wm Howard Taft Rd, Cincinnati 45219. www.vittstermeranderson.com
