William (Bill) Joseph Nolan Jr., 72, passed away suddenly on June 26 after a long battle with cancer. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Maly), devoted father to Beth Nolan, Susan (Joe) Crace, Annie (Adarsh) Srivastava and Patrick (Katie) Nolan and adoring Paw-Paw to Amelia, Nolan, Shepherd, Palmer and Sloane, the son of the late William and Janet Nolan, brother to Patti (Steve) Dannemiller, Chris Nolan, Peggy (Greg) Shields.
Bill was born in 1952 in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Elder High School in 1970 and studied finance at Xavier University, graduating in 1974. Above all, Bill's life was marked by unwavering service to his family, community, and faith.
Bill was a devoted father and husband, a loyal brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and gifted caregiver. He never missed an opportunity to coach his kids' sports teams, attend recitals and games, or play with his adoring nieces and nephews.
After a 35-year finance career at the US Postal Service, he retired to care for his beloved wife, Barb, until her passing from cancer in 2011.
In his retirement, Bill continued his passion to serve others. He spent the last 11 years volunteering at Children's Hospital, entertaining and brightening the days of many children. He also found his calling as a caregiver, dedicating years to caring for Bob and Mary Crosset, sharing scenic drives, lunches, and many stories. Bill found great accomplishment serving on the Board of the Postal Family Credit Union, a position in which he took much pride.
Bill had a love for traveling, hiking, fishing at the farm, golfing with friends, and enjoying time with friends and family. A true Elder Panther, he was a fixture at Elder High School Dad’s Club and a season ticket holder for 35 years. Above all, Bill cherished spending time with his children and especially being a beloved Paw-Paw to his grandchildren.
Bill had an incredible gift for remembering names and genuinely cared about each person he met. Though he had four children of his own, he loved and cared for many others as if they were his own. His legacy of compassion and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.
Through his deep faith in God, Bill faced his cancer diagnosis with bravery and optimism. His family is forever grateful for the exceptional care he received from the Cleveland Clinic team.
His family takes comfort knowing that he is reunited with Barb, Bob, his parents, Gene, and many other loved ones in heaven.
